In Iowa, marriage licenses may be applied for only from a County Registrar of Vital Records. When you apply for your license, you'll not only need a proof of identification and age, will need to provide any information about previous marriages, and will need to pay a nominal fee. You will also need to have a witness (over 18 years of age) when you sign the application. While you do not have to be a resident of Iowa to apply, both bride and groom must appear in person at the time of application. Marriage licenses issued in Iowa are valid for up to six months and must be performed by authorized officiants within the boundaries of the State of Iowa.
